The Arkansas Board of Nursing provides the following guidelines regarding the continuing education requirements for nursing professions in Arkansas.
Licensed Practical Nurses

LPNs are required to complete one of the following methods to renew their license every 2 years.

15 contact hours of continuing education

Certification or recertification by a national certifying body

Completion of a recognized academic course in nursing or a related field

Registered Nurses

RNs are required to complete one of the following methods to renew their license every 2 years.

15 contact hours of continuing education

Certification or recertification by a national certifying body

Completion of a recognized academic course in nursing or a related field

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses

APRNs are required to complete one of the following methods to renew their license every 2 years.

15 contact hours of general continuing education + 5 contact hours on pharmacotherapeutics related to their specialty

2 of the 5 contact hours of pharmacotherapeutics must be on maintaining professional boundaries and the prescribing rules, regulations, and laws that apply to APRNs in Arkansas.

Certification or recertification by a national certifying body

Completion of a recognized academic course in nursing or a related field
For those holding a current DEA registration, 2 contact hours of continuing education on pain management and opioid use and addiction is required upon renewal.
