What are Georgia's State CE Requirements?
The Georgia Board of Nursing provides the following guidelines regarding the continuing education requirements for nursing professions in Georgia.
Licensed Practical Nurses
- LPNs have 2 options for their biennial renewal:
- Complete 20 contact hours. Nursing CE Central provides a comprehensive course bundle meeting these requirements and can be taken here.
- Completion of an accredited academic program of study in registered professional nursing, as recognized by the board.
Registered Nurses
- RNs must complete one of 5 options for their biennial renewal:
- Completion of 30 contact hours. Nursing CE Central provides a comprehensive course bundle meeting these requirements and can be taken here.
- Maintenance or recertification of a nationally board-recognized certification in their area of specialty.
- Completion of an accredited academic program of study in nursing or a related field as recognized by the Board
- (500) hours practiced as evidenced by employer certification on a form approved by the Board.
- Completion of a Board-approved reentry program or graduation from a nursing education program.
Advanced Practice Registered Nurses
- APRNs are required to meet the continuing competency requirements for RN renewal AND maintain certification in their area of specialty.
- Under a Nurse Protocol Agreement, APRNs must complete pharmacology-related continuing education annually, as required by their delegating physician.
- APRNs authorized to prescribe hydrocodone, oxycodone, or related compounds must complete 1 hour of continuing education biennially on their proper use. This course is provided by Nursing CE Central and can be taken here.
