Licensed Practical Nurses

Louisiana State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners does not require continuing education for LPNs at this time.
Registered Nurses

A minimum of 30 board-approved contact hours of CE during the 2-year licensure period OR
-
Work a minimum of 900 practice hours during the two-year licensure period, as verified by the employer on a form provided by the board.

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses

APRNs are required to complete 30 contact hours of general continuing education every 2 years.

*APRNs who are nationally board-certified meet the provisions for RN renewal by holding an approved certification*

APRNs with prescriptive authority must complete 12 contact hours (6 each year) of continuing education in pharmacotherapeutics in their advanced nursing role and population foci.

APRNS with a CDS license in Louisiana must complete the 3 hours of CDS-CME with their first renewal as a one-time requirement. The course must be taken through the Medical Interactive/LAMMICO site here.
