The Maine Board of Nursing provides the following guidelines regarding the continuing education requirements for nursing professions in Maine.

Licensed Practical Nurses
- Maine Board of Nursing does not require continuing education for LPNs at this time.
Registered Nurses
- Maine Board of Nursing does not require continuing education for RNs at this time.
Advanced Practice Registered Nurses
- APRNs are required to maintain their national nursing certification
- APRNs that were approved to practice prior to 1993 are required to complete 50 contact hours of continuing education every 2 years.
- At least 3 of the 50 contact hours must be on The Prescribing of Opioid Medication for those with prescriptive authority
