What are Michigan's State CE Requirements?
The Michigan Board of Nursing provides the following guidelines regarding the continuing education requirements for nursing professions in Michigan.
Licensed Practical Nurses
- LPNs are required to complete 25 contact hours of continuing education every 2 years.
- 2 of the 25 contact hours must be on pain and symptom management. This course is provided by Nursing CE Central and can be taken here.
- 1 of the 25 contact hours must be on human trafficking (one-time requirement). This course is provided by Nursing CE Central and can be taken here.
- 1 contact hour of implicit bias training for each year of their license or registration cycle; for every two-year renewal, nurses will need 2 contact hours of implicit bias training. This course is provided by Nursing CE Central and can be taken here.
- No more than 12 credit hours may be earned during a 24-hour period.
Registered Nurses
- RNs are required to complete 25 contact hours of continuing education every 2 years.
- 2 of the 25 contact hours must be on pain and symptom management. This course is provided by Nursing CE Central and can be taken here.
- 1 of the 25 contact hours must be on human trafficking (one-time requirement). This course is provided by Nursing CE Central and can be taken here.
- 1 contact hour of implicit bias training for each year of their license or registration cycle; for every two-year renewal, nurses will need 2 contact hours of implicit bias training. This course is provided by Nursing CE Central and can be taken here.

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses
- APRNs are required to complete 25 contact hours of continuing education every 2 years.
- CRNAs with a controlled substance license must complete an opioids and controlled substance awareness course (one-time requirement). This course is provided by Nursing CE Central and can be taken here.
- 2 of the 25 contact hours must be on pain and symptom management. This course is provided by Nursing CE Central and can be taken here.
- 1 of the 25 contact hours must be on human trafficking (one-time requirement). This course is provided by Nursing CE Central and can be taken here.
- 1 additional contact hour of implicit bias training for each year of their license or registration cycle; for every two-year renewal, nurses will need 2 contact hours of implicit bias training. This course is provided by Nursing CE Central and can be taken here.
- APRNs who are licensed prescribers or dispensers of controlled substances must complete training in opioids and controlled substance awareness every renewal period. This course is provided by Nursing CE Central and can be taken here.
- No more than 12 credit hours may be earned during 24 hours.
