What are Oregon's State CE Requirements?

Licensed Practical Nurses

• 20 hours of continuing education within two years
• LPNs are also required to complete a two-hour cultural competency module every 4 years.
• LPNs are required to complete one hour of pain management continuing education with initial licensure and every 3 years thereafter.
  • The Oregon Pain Management Commission (OPMC) offers a pain module that meets this requirement. It can be found here.

• To reinstate an expired license, the following Continuing education hours are required based on the length of time the license has been lapsed:
  • 2 years or less - 20 Hours of Continuing Education
  • 2-3 years - 30 Hours of Continuing Education
  • 3-4 years - 40 hours of Continuing Education
  • 4-5 years - 50 Hours of Continuing Education
  • More than 5 years - 60 Hours of Continuing Education

Registered Nurses

• 20 hours of continuing education within two years
• RNs are also required to complete a two-hour cultural competency module every 4 years.
• RNs are required to complete one hour of pain management continuing education with initial licensure and every 3 years thereafter.

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses

• APRNs in Oregon must renew their RN license to renew their APRN license; AND
• 20 hours of continuing education within two years
• APRNs are also required to complete a two-hour cultural competency module every 4 years.
• APRNs are required to complete one hour of pain management continuing education with initial licensure and every 3 years thereafter.
  • The Oregon Pain Management Commission (OPMC) offers a pain module that meets this requirement. It can be found here.
• APRNs who hold a fluoroscopy supervision permit
  • Must complete 4 hours of CE per year or 8 hours for a 2-year renewal related to fluoroscopy and radiation.
  • Two of the yearly required 4 hours must be related to radiation use and safety, and two hours must be related to the clinical use of fluoroscopy.
• APRNs who are applying for prescriptive and dispensing authority
  • 45 CEs in pharmacology and clinical education
• CNS applicants for 2028 Renewal:
  • 75 hours of continuing education within the last five years
• Nurse emeritus applicants for 2028 Renewal:
  • 10 hours of continuing education within two years.
• CRNA or NP applicants for 2028 Renewal:
  • Holding a current national certification fulfills the continuing education requirement.
    • Please note that Pain Management and Cultural Competency education are still required as listed above.
