The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services provides the following guidelines regarding the continuing education requirements for nursing professions in Nebraska.
Licensed Practical Nurses
- LPNs have the option to complete 20 contact hours of continuing education every 2 years. This is one of the continued competency requirements. You can view the list of other approved requirements here.
- No more than 4 of the 20 contact hours may be from CPR or BLS certifications.
Registered Nurses
- RNs have the option to complete 20 contact hours of continuing education every 2 years. This is one of the continued competency requirements. You can view the list of other approved requirements here.
- No more than 4 of the 20 contact hours may be from CPR or BLS certifications.
Advanced Practice Registered Nurses
- APRNs fulfill the competency requirement for renewal by maintaining their national board certification
- APRNs with prescriptive authority must complete 3 hours of continuing education (CE) in opiate prescribing
