The New York State Board of Nursing provides the following guidelines regarding the continuing education requirements for nursing professions in New York.
Licensed Practical Nurses

LPNs are required to complete coursework in infection control and barrier precautions every 4 years.

There are no set hours for this requirement as long as the course has the minimum seven core elements and is approved by NYSED.

Prior to being issued a license, nurses who did not graduate from a nursing

education program registered by NYSED after 09/01/1990 will need to

complete a 2-hour course on child abuse reporting (one time requirement)

Registered Nurses

Managing acute pain

Palliative medicine

Prevention, screening, and signs of addiction

Responses to abuse and addiction

End-of-life care

APRNs without DEA registration have no specified continuing education requirements at this time.
