What are North Dakota's State CE Requirements?

The North Dakota Board of Nursing provides the following guidelines regarding the continuing education requirements for nursing professions in North Dakota.

Licensed Practical Nurses

    • LPNs are required to complete 12 contact hours of continuing education every 2 years. 

Registered Nurses

    • RNs are required to complete 12 contact hours of continuing education every 2 years.

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses

    • Initial APRN applicants must complete 30 contact hours in pharmacology

    • APRNs are required to maintain their national certification and their RN license which requires 12 CEs.

    • APRNs with prescriptive authority are required to complete 15 contact hours of continuing education every 2 years.

    • These 15 contact hours must be on pharmacology related to scope of practice and will fulfill the requirements for renewal.
