      What are Ohio's State CE Requirements?

      The Ohio Board of Nursing provides the following guidelines regarding the continuing education requirements for nursing professions in Ohio.

       

      Licensed Practical Nurses

      • LPNs are required to complete 24 contact hours of continuing education every 2 years.

      • Newly Licensed LPNs do not need to complete contact hours for their FIRST renewal

        • 1 of the 24 contact hours must be related to the Ohio Nurse Practice Act (Category A)

        • Licensure by endorsement applicants must complete 2 Category A contact hours in Ohio Nurse Practice Act.

       

      Registered Nurses

      • RNs are required to complete 24 contact hours of continuing education every 2 years.

      • Newly Licensed RNs do not need to complete contact hours for their FIRST renewal

        • 1 of the 24 contact hours must be related to the Ohio Nurse Practice Act (Category A)

        • Licensure by endorsement applicants must complete 2 Category A contact hours in Ohio Nurse Practice Act

       

      Advanced Practice Registered Nurses

      • APRNs are required to complete 24 contact hours of continuing education every 2 years. (Per APRN license)

        • 12 of the 24 contact hours must be on advanced pharmacology (for CNPs, CNSs, and CNMs)

        • 1 of the 24 hours must be in Ohio Law on Schedule II Prescribing for those that completed an APRN program not in Ohio (one time requirement for initial licensure only)

      • Please note: The 24 contact hours required to renew each APRN license are in addition to the 24 hours required to renew the RN license.
