The Pennsylvania Board of Nursing provides the following guidelines regarding the continuing education requirements for nursing professions in Pennsylvania.
Licensed Practical Nurses

LVNs are required to complete 2 hours of child abuse recognition and reporting continuing education every 2 years.

Registered Nurses
- RNs are required to complete 30 contact hours of Continuing Education every 2 years.

2 of the 30 contact hours must be on child abuse recognition and reporting

Certified Registered Nurse Practitioners

CRNPs are required to complete 30 contact hours of continuing education every 2 years.

2 of the 30 hours must be on child abuse recognition and reporting.

2 of the 30 hours must be on pain management, identification of addiction, or practice of prescribing or dispensing opioids.

16 of the 30 contact hours must be on pharmacology for those with prescriptive authority
