What are Rhode Island's State CE Requirements?

The Rhode Island Board of Nursing provides the following guidelines regarding the continuing education requirements for nursing professions in Rhode Island.

Licensed Practical Nurses

  • LPNs are required to complete 10 contact hours of continuing education every 2 years.

    • 2 of the 10 contact hours must be on substance abuse 

  • 1 additional contact hour must be on Alzheimer’s disease (one-time requirement) 

Registered Nurses

  • RNs are required to complete 10 contact hours of continuing education every 2 years. 

    • 2 of the 10 contact hours must be on substance abuse 

  • 1 additional contact hour must be on Alzheimer’s disease (one-time requirement) 

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses

  • APRNs are required to complete 10 contact hours of continuing education every 2 years. 

    • 2 of the 10 contact hours must be on substance abuse 

  • 1 additional contact hour must be on Alzheimer’s disease (one-time requirement)
