The South Carolina Board of Nursing provides the following guidelines regarding the continuing education requirements for nursing professions in South Carolina.
Licensed Practical Nurses

LPNs are required to complete 30 contact hours of continuing education every 2 years.
Registered Nurses

RNs are required to complete 30 contact hours of continuing education every 2 years.
Advanced Practice Registered Nurses

APRNs are required to complete 30 contact hours of continuing education every 2 years.

APRNs with prescriptive authority are required to complete 20 additional contact hours of continuing education on pharmacotherapeutics.

2 of the 20 contact hours must be on prescribing controlled substances
