The Washington State Board of Nursing provides the following guidelines regarding the continuing education requirements for nursing professions in Washington.
Licensed Practical Nurses
- LPNs are required to complete 8 contact hours of continuing education annually.
- 2 of the contact hours must be on health equity
- 6 additional contact hours must be on Suicide Prevention Training (one-time requirement)
- LPNs that provide telehealth services must complete telehealth training (one-time requirement). Course can be accessed here.
Registered Nurses
- RNs are required to complete 8 contact hours of continuing education as well as 96 hours of active practice annually.
- 2 of the contact hours must be on health equity
- 6 additional contact hours must be on suicide prevention training (one-time requirement)
- RNs that provide telehealth services must complete telehealth training (one-time requirement). Course can be accessed here.
Advanced Practice Registered Nurses
- APRNs must maintain an active RN license
- APRNs are required to complete 30 contact hours of continuing education every 2 years.
- APRNs with prescriptive authority are required to complete an additional 15 contact hours
of continuing education on pharmacology every 2 years. - APRNs
that are pain management specialists must complete 18 contact hours in
pain management every 2 years. These hours count towards the 30 total. - 2 of the contact hours must be on health equity
- 6 additional contact hours must be on suicide prevention training (one-time requirement)
- APRNs that provide telehealth services must complete telehealth training (one-time requirement). Course can be accessed here.
